A new week, a new set of Top 10 charts from 12 of the most exciting artists from all over the DJ universe – from fresh up-and-coming artists, through pioneers of more underground sounds, to some of the biggest household names.
This is Mixmag.net DJ Charts – November 2010 Week 2 and boy do we have a treat in store for you. Or how about the tracks currently messing up dance floors for trance giants Above & Beyond, original d’n'b and jungle stalwart Shy FX, the collective of the underground Bar25 label, and Culprit imprint head honchos Droog?
Above & Beyond
These giants occupy a firm position in the star-spangled Trance sky, managing their own well established label Anjunabeats and receiving steady support by equal demi-gods Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery and Ferry Corsten.
Cesare vs Disorder
Italian born Cesare Marchese pushes the minimal techno and house envelope to great success having spinned alongside the likes of Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, and Marc Houle. Noone on the underground scene can have escaped ‘The Nu Chance’ under his Cez vs Ray moniker.
MYNC
Led by front man and owner of Cr2 Records, Mark Brown, MYNC has played all over the world and received coveted remix requests by Ministy of Sound Sessions, as well as Faithless and Miss Kylie Minogue. They also boast support from superstars Tiesto, Pete Tong and Erick Morillo.
Shy FX
An early pioneer of the jungle and d’n'b sound, arriving on the scene in the early 90s and releasing the absolute anthem of 1994 ‘Original Nuttah’, Shy FX’s long career has seen him collaborate with the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Plan B to name only a few.
Droog
This LA based trio has managed a perfect foursome. Not only do they produce and DJ alongside world acts such as Richie Hawtin, Steve Bug and Steve Lawler, but they also manage Culprit label and hold down a raved about residency at Avalon Hollywood, one of the biggest clubs in the US featuring stars such as Magda and Jamie Jones and Dixon.
Milou
This literal rose among thorns holds down a residency for Ibiza’s The Zoo Project with her soulful techy house and melodious grooves, drawing inspiration from her time in US and Detroit and her travels across the world, as well as a firm fan base.
Bar25
The (in)famous after hours playground that is Bar25, and the imprint with the same name, proudly houses an underground family featuring names such as dirty Doering, Nicone, Britta Arnold, Sasha Braemer, and Gavin Herlihy adhering to Berlin techno.
Delta Heavy
This recent RAM signing has been warming for Andy C througout 2010 and is influenced by ‘cinematic soundscapes, house, techno and the 80s’ – something which is apparent on their futuristic voyage in space and time that is their debut single, Space Time.
Robert Dietz
After a successful season in Ibiza Robert Dietz sits comfortably next to his Cadenza fraternity brothers of the Vagabundos order, Luciano and Reboot. Specialising in teasing his audience his upcoming gig with Vagabundos for Pacha NY birthday celebrations in December should be one to remember.
Komatic
Drawing inspiration from such an eclectic gathering as Chicane, Prodigy and Massive Attack you know your in for a treat with this d’n'b and jungle luminary. DJing since his early teens Komatic lives by a simple motto: “If it doesn’t make you dance or make you think, its not worth writing it.”
Silicone Soul
This British duo has long been on the electronic dance music scene, signed to Soma since the early 90s. Launching their Darkroom Dubs imprint in 2003 they, as the name suggests, ventured deeper underground with acts such as Martinez, Sei A and Extrawelt. This year saw them mix up tracks from their own label on the second edition of the compilation Darkroom Dubs.
